RSL scholarship empowers future business leader in Papua New Guinea

Meet Winsum Patrick, a two-time recipient of the RSL New Guinea Campaign Tertiary Scholarship. Winsum is currently studying International Business Management at Western Pacific University, with aspirations to make a lasting impact in her community and beyond.

The scholarship, administered by RSL ACT’s Port Moresby Sub-Branch, provides $6,500 per year for three years (subject to satisfactory academic results) to support a Papua New Guinean student in their tertiary studies.

The RSL provides scholarships in regions where Australian veterans once served, as a continuing expression of gratitude for the friendship, support and mutual regard formed during times of conflict. These scholarships are a way to give back to the people of those regions, ensuring that the legacy of support and connection lives on through education and opportunity.

Winsum’s journey is a testament to how this ongoing support can help shape bright futures for young leaders.

Applications for australian Scholarships now open

Do you have children or grandchildren heading into tertiary study in Australia? They may be eligible for an RSL Scholarship to help support their education.

RSL Australia sponsors scholarships for children and grandchildren of Australian veterans. Applications for the 2026 Scholarships will be accepted until 31 October 2025. These scholarships support students studying full-time at Australian universities, TAFE colleges and registered training organisations.

Scholarships are administered by our partner, the Australian Veterans’ Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT), and applications must be made through the AVCAT website.
