ANZAC Day 2017 Ceremonies

ANZAC Day ceremonies are hosted by the Australian War Memorial, with involvement of the ACT Branch of the RSL in the Dawn Service and the National ANZAC Day ceremony.  Detailed information, which is regularly updated, is available on the Memorial’s website, www.awm.gov.au
The overall RSL co-ordinator is TBA 2018.

Dawn Service – The Dawn Service commences at 5.30am in front of the Australian War Memorial.  It is suggested that visitors should arrive from 4.30am onwards.
The Master of Ceremonies is Ross Symonds.  The Presiding Minister is Senior Chaplain Duncan Becsi RAN. The Commemorative Address will be delivered by the Mr Curtis McGrath OAM. The wreath layers are Mr John King and Air Commodore Andrew Clark RNZAF.  The Piper is Detective Sergeant Stephen Ladd, AFP.   ‘In Flanders Fields’ will be read by Junior Legatee Miss Diana Marshall.  The Band will be from Royal Military College of Australia and the choirs will be the Australian Rugby Choir, The Australian Military Wives Choir and Brindabella Chorus.
No tickets are required for the Dawn Service and there is no allocated seating.  Visitors are welcome to occupy the seating provided for the National Ceremony, but this should be vacated at the conclusion of the Dawn Service.  The Memorial’s Commemorative Area, including the Hall of Memory, will open 15 minutes after the Service concludes and will remain open until 8.00am

National Ceremony – The National Ceremony commences at 10.30am with the veterans’ march, which steps off at 10.55am.  Visitors are welcome to bring their own seats and rugs.  Trained First Aid staff will be in attendance.  The Memorial will re-open after the Ceremony around 12.45pm.

ANZAC Veterans’ March  Contingent leaders should contact the March Co-ordinator (if they have not yet done so) to ensure that their contingent is included in the Order of March.  To help with overall arrangements, contingent leaders are requested as a matter of urgency to advise the March Co-ordinator of the number of marchers expected to be taking part.  Water points and portable public toilets will be available along ANZAC Parade.

Road Closures – Road closures will be in operation from 4.00am to 1.00pm, which will limit public access to parking at the Memorial.   Visitors planning to walk to the Memorial should keep to the footpaths as shuttle buses will be in operation.

ACTION Bus Services The Australian War Memorial and ACTION Buses will be providing FREE bus services to and from both the Dawn Service and the National Ceremony. This year, to assist passengers in preparing their travel to the ceremonies, ACTION has implemented a new registration process, Register to Ride.
Register to Ride provides assurance that your bus travel to and from the ceremonies is arranged. It also allows ACTION to be able to manage customer demand and ensure resources are used effectively. Tickets are limited so customers are encouraged to register early.

For all information and to register to ride with ACTION please go to www.action.act.gov.au or contact ACTION on 13 17 10.
