THE RSL DEFENCE SUB-BRANCHGo to the Defence Sub-Branch web site INTRODUCTIONOn 16 Apr 2010 the RSL, with the support of the ADF, launches its web-based RSL Defence Sub-Branch. This initiative is designed exclusively for serving ADF personnel and will make it easier for serving personnel to join and remain RSL members, accessing our support and advice services and nationwide venues. This includes access for members and their families to discounts on merchandise and entertainment which are already available to RSL members. Although a National RSL iniative, the web page, membership database and administration will be hosted by the Victorian Branch of the RSL. The membership database is supported by IMG, one of the largest sports, entertainment and club support companies in the world. They guarantee the information integrity and security of on-line payments. IMG provides similar services to the AFL Club network for example.
KEY FEATURES OF THE DEFENCE SUB-BRANCHThis Sub-Branch retains the initial free year's membership which has long been a feature for currently serving members. Annual membership thereafter is $30.00. Members receive a National format Membership Card which will ensure a warm welcome at all RSL Sub-Branches and clubs throughout Australia. Discounts are available on merchandise and services accessed through the Membership Card. This includes acces to the Ambassador Card discount scheme, Clive Peeters appliance stores and a major hotel chain. A quarterly member magazine is being provided, while information on RSL services and assistance will be accessible through the RSL website. Links to other DVA, Ex-Service Organisation (ESO) and military service sites will provide further interest. The site will also link to all RSL web sites and State entertainment guides. A dedicated enquiry page will enable Service members to receive specific advice, assistance and information in a timely fashion. We anticipate acknowledgement of your enquiry within 24 hours and a full response within five working days. The Sub-Branch administration team will facilitate a request for local RSL support for yourself or your family while you are absent for extended periods on exercise, training or deployment. Personal email will be used to provide updates on RSL activities, advocacy, policy matters and events. Defence Sub-Branch members can choose to transfer their membership at any time to any one our the RSL's 1,200 plus Sub-Branches. The Defence Sub-Branch is simply another option which helps to make RSL membership accessible, convenient and hassle-free despite a hectic life of postings and deployments. SUMMARYSince its creation the RSL has consistently lobbied and advocated for Australila's veteran community and our fighting men and women. That, and providing for the care and commemoration of Service men and women is our raison d'etre. The League sees the Defence Sub-Branch as a contemporary and effective way to involve the next generation of veterans in the life of the League and to support them more effectively while they are still serving.
